About Us

The Matrix service helps children and young people under 25 in South Tyneside. We help people who are using drugs or alcohol. We also help their families and carers.

We are a friendly team who want to listen and support you. Our building is in South Shields Town Centre. We can meet you in other places if that’s easier for you.

We are here to help.
What we can help you with:

  • Giving you advice and information
  • Helping you learn about drugs and alcohol
  • Talking about what makes you want to use them and ways to cope
  • Supporting you to avoid using drugs or alcohol again if you have stopped
  • Helping with things like school, college, or other life worries
  • Making sure you are safe
  • Offering counselling
  • Support around feelings and emotions
  • Helping you get sexual health advice and condoms

What happens at your appointment?

We talk to you and listen carefully to see what’s happening in your life and the best way to support you. This first conversation we will get to know each other. After that we can arrange more support if you want it around the things you would like to be different.

Confidentiality (Keeping things private)

Opening up to somebody can be scary and you might be worried about what happens with your information. The Matrix is confidential which means we keep your information private, safe and secure. Sometimes we might need to share information if we are worried that you are at risk of harm or if you tell us somebody else might be at risk of harm. If we do need to share anything we will talk to you about it first.
